At the beginning of the year (When I had 1,500 subscribers) I set myself the goal to reach 2,000 subscribers before I attended Vidcon in June. Then, in less than a month I managed to pass my goal! Yay for accomplishment! It’s great feeling to accomplish one of my goals for 2014 within the first month of the year. I’ve been given a bit of a boost and some motivation to keep on achieving goals throughout the year, so let’s hope I can keep the momentum up and check off more goals on my list!
In regards to achieving this goal, I think it is largely thanks to my prolific commenting on YouTube, which has allowed my name to spread and strike up the curiosity of YouTube viewers. Once that curiosity as to who ‘Ryan Lamont’ is has formed, curious minds investigate! People are then introduced to my videos and either hit the subscribe button or change the page, and this month over 500 people decided to subscribe! I’ve been gaining over 100 subscribers a week since the year began, so I hope this pattern continues and grows throughout the year – and in turn I hope I can improve my videos and create content that will attract a bigger audience to my wee channel.
The #2Ksubclub is a small club in the New Zealand YouTube community; I only know of 3 other people in that club. Of course subscribers are only one part of the puzzle that is YouTube, and I’d say not even the most important part. Viewer engagement is what I see as the most important part of YouTube. If you can’t engage with your audience through comments, tweets, etc. or if they don’t engage with your content through likes and shares, then it leaves a video very bare and lonely, and leaves a video creator with very little influence.I started YouTube to make friends and meet new people, so naturally I highly value comments on my videos, since it allows me to strike up conversation with people from all around the world. Comments also hold valuable critique, advice, ideas and other great pieces of information. That’s why I try to comment on everything I watch, and encourage others to do the same.
So thank you to all of you who have subscribed to my channel, and engaged with my content. It means a lot to me, and motivates me to keep creating and improving!
